Favorite non-reading activity?

My favorite non-reading activity is running. I often feel as though my plot problems resolve themselves on the running trail. Sometimes you need to clear everything out of your mind to let the good stuff come in. I also enjoy spinning, lifting, and anything active that forces me outside.

Is your go to comfort food sweet or savory? Is it something you make yourself? Does food inspire your writing?

Definitely sweet! I love dark chocolate and coffee. And yes, sometimes I like those two things together. I try not to snack too much when I write, but I do guzzle coffee like it’s going to run out completely if I don’t finish every last drop, and sometimes tea too. It’s hard for me to write without a hot drink beside me, especially in the colder months.

Vacation druthers… City or Rural destination? Why?

I’m a city girl, for sure. This past summer I spent a week in NYC and one in Seattle. One of the big reasons I like cities is because of the great restaurants, and if I’m seaside, I love fresh seafood. I like to visit Manhattan every few years to catch a Broadway Show. I saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with my kids this past summer, and the special effects were amazing. The play was only showing in three cities, and I enjoy going places and having unique experiences you couldn’t have elsewhere. Overall, for me, there’s just more to see and do in the city, but I do go off the grid once a year to a remote cabin in the woods to unplug, read, write, and hike!

What’s the difference (at least for you!) between being a writer and an author? How do you shift gears between the two?

I think there’s absolutely no difference between those two things. If you’re sitting down, day after day, stringing words together to create a story, you’re a writer. And if you’re doing those things, you’re also an author. If you’re hung up on titles, then you’re not doing it right. My advice: write what you love and get your stories out into the world the best way you see fit. You’re the Author, after all!

What brings you great joy?

My family and my two Bernese mountain dogs bring me the greatest joy. My son is a hockey player and my daughter is a cheerleader and plays lacrosse, and I love rooting them on from sidelines. When I’m home, I enjoy snuggling with my two furballs, Lily and Luna, the worlds’ largest teddy bears. When my husband and I have an occasional date night, we go to shows. Live music = happiness. I’m going to see Pearl Jam for the first time in September, a bucket list band for me.
