Dave Tamanini

Dave Tamanini lives in Pennsylvania. His life experiences, combined with a desire to entertain, shape his writing. As a former civil rights investigator, and an attorney for 30 years, he learned a lot about human strength, frailty… and hypocrisy.

Social issues and the ways we deal with them fascinate Dave. In Tituba he weaves a historical/fantasy novel with many actual characters to focus on our common human nature, the abuse of power, and injustice. The real-life Tituba was a tragic figure, an enslaved woman of color, and the first person accused of witchcraft in 1692 colonial Salem. Tituba is a provocative imagining of motivations during the 1692 witch hunt madness with an added touch of ancient magic.

Favorite non-reading activity?

My favorite activity is boating. I've had a modest pontoon boat and live near the Susquehanna River. Even a single hour on the water always keeps makes me smile, and keeps me contented and rejuvenated.

Is your go to comfort food sweet or savory? Is it something you make yourself? Does food inspire your writing?

Even numbered days of the week, roasted almonds. Odd days, popcorn. Chocolate as needed.

Vacation druthers… City or Rural destination? Why?

I've been out of the country many times, so now I dream of spending weeks at a time in New England. So, I guess that means city and rural, especially along the coast.

Is there another profession you would like to try?

Oh, to understand mathematics! Then I'd become a theoretical physicist always looking for answers!

What brings you great joy?

A few hours over dinner and talk with friends or family tops my list.
