Erin La Rosa

Erin La Rosa has written many highly engaging... tweets, as a social media manager. But on her way to writing romance, she's also published two humorous non-fiction books, Womanskills and The Big Redhead Book. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three daughters (one human, two felines).

Is there a genre of music that influences your writing/thinking? Do you listen to music while you write?

I listen to super sappy ballads when I'm writing, and they almost become background noise that I can tune in and out of. Like, Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time," for whatever reason, just kind of kicks my brain into writing gear. Vanessa Williams's "Save the Best for Last" is another one.

Favorite non-reading activity?

I love cooking—like, massive, beautiful meals, and especially for a dinner party. I'm a big host, and like to have close groups of friends over.

Is your go to comfort food sweet or savory? Is it something you make yourself? Does food inspire your writing?

I have a massive sweet tooth, like, if I could just survive off of gummy bears (do not try this), I would do that. But food absolutely inspires my writing. I wrote For Butter or Worse, which involves a lot of the LA food scene, and ordered so many donuts from Donut Friend in Echo Park that I actually gave them an acknowledgment at the end of the book.

Do you have another artistic outlet in addition to your writing? Do you sew? Paint? Draw? Knit? Dance?

I am absolutely terrible at most things, but I really love playing the ukulele. I have very small hands, and tried to play guitar in high school. My husband bought me a ukulele as a substitute, and it's relaxing and fun. Highly recommend it!

If you could create a museum exhibition, what would be the theme?

I'm kind of obsessed with celebrity families. Like, the kind where more than one person is famous. I love this podcast called Even the Rich, which is all about celeb fams. So I think I'd do a museum just loaded with facts and portraits and experiences all dealing with celeb culture.
