Are there particular films that have influenced your writing?

I come from a family of explorers and adventurers, so when INDIANA JONES came out I rushed to see it. Particularly because the Harrison Ford character is based on my grandfather, the rediscoverer of Machu Picchu. So my books are full of adventure, passion and exotic locales.

Favorite non-reading activity?

Definitely walking. If I’m stuck in a scene, a brisk walk will get the words flowing again, and then my characters start to talk to me. Plus daily immersion in nature calms any anxiety.

Vacation druthers… City or Rural destination? Why?

If you haven’t guessed from the above two answers - exotic locations. I’ve inhaled the pungent aromas of the souks in Morocco and Istanbul. I’ve prayed at dawn on the Ganges River in India. Lions have snuffled at my tent in Tanzania. I’ve hunted with the bushmen. And I lead EcoTravel-tours to Peru.

Do you have another artistic outlet in addition to your writing? Do you sew? Paint? Draw? Knit? Dance?

I certainly do - painting and drawing. It satisfies a totally different part of my brain than writing. In fact, I designed the cover of my last book. Check out my writing and painting on my website.

What piece of clothing tells the most interesting story about your life?

I can’t choose just one. I love my closet. I grew up poor but my mother made sure I had a new dress for Easter every year. Now I have golden Kurtas from India, Ikat skirts from Bali, and warm woolen ponchos from Peru, not to speak of colorful floor length dresses from Brazil.
