Michael Schnabel

Michael Schnabel is the author of Daddy's Girl, a memoir about the challenges and struggles of parenting through a medical crisis. A graduate of Northern State University, Michael developed his passion for writing and storytelling during his thirty-year career at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Michael lives in Overland Park, Kansas, with his wife, and when not spending time with family, you can find him tending to his 26-acre tree farm. Daddy's Girl is his first book.

Favorite non-reading activity?

I love to watch my grandson play soccer. He competes nationally and is committed to playing at his highest level. His soccer IQ on the field and extra time developing himself has earned him national recognition as a Center Back. But what I love the most is his joy and excitement while playing.

Vacation druthers… City or Rural destination? Why?

I love the water and lake life. It doesn’t matter if I am wader fishing with my lifelong buddy using homemade bucktail jigs and long rods, taking a lazy boat ride with my family, or just sitting on the dock looking at the waves go by. Lake Life washes off my stress and brings out the best in me.

Do you collect anything? If so, what, why, and for how long?

My wife Colleen and I enjoy antiquing. We collect Victorian furniture and anything that catches our eye. Much of my office decor is from the 1920s. I had enjoyed looking for old treasures since my mother took me along on her antique trips starting when I was six.

What do you worry about?

The short answer is everything! I am passionate about life, an overachiever, and very analytical. I work hard to do my best, but I can always see additional steps to take. Unfortunately, sometimes I forget to stop and smell the roses.

What brings you great joy?

I enjoy being around young people. A baby’s smile, a toddler’s giggles when they play, and watching teenagers put on a high school play. I love their innocence, excitement, and joy that our crazy world hasn’t tainted. It fills me with memories of simpler times with my children and grandchild.
